Top must-try Dishes in Mallorca

Our list of top food to try and restaurants to visit in Mallorca, Spain.

Are you ready for a little Mallorca food tour? Great, so are we! But first a very important rule … do not read this if you are hungry, because you will want to jump on a plane and visit every single restaurant we are going to show you in the next few minutes. From all the traditional food to our favourite restaurants we visited, we give you a Mallorca food tour!

Tapas

Thinking of Spanish food the first thing you imagine is definitely tapas. It is not only food, it is the whole experience. Imagine sitting in a cute little wine bar or restaurant, drinking a glass of wine, and sharing your favorite food, which comes in smaller portions, with your favorite people. While every part of Spain is known for its own tapas, here are some of Mallorca’s most famous ones.

Our top picks are definitely: Piementos de Padron, Patatas bravas, Calamares or Chipirones, Albondigas and Croquetas

Paella

Paella is a dish that definitely represents Spain. Though it is originally from Valencia, you must try Mallorca’s versions of this famous dish, as it will show you that paella is more than just rice with some toppings on it. Mallorca offers countless restaurants where you can find paella and each of them has its own way of making it. We would recommend trying out seafood paella and for those brave foodies watching this, try out the black paella, or arroz negro, made with cuttlefish ink.

Please note that preparing paella takes a minimum of 20 minutes. Some restaurants may require you to place your order at least a day in advance. Additionally, paella is typically ordered for a minimum of two people.

Aioli

Aioli, olives, and bread to start your meal in Mallorca is like ordering a cocktail at happy hour. You simply must do it! We got it served at almost every restaurant we visited. Aioli is a creamy dip that reminds you of mayonnaise or yogurt, depending on how it is made. The charm of aioli is that it never tastes the same and every restaurant has its own signature taste.

Pa Amb Oli

One of the most traditional Mallorcan dishes that will leave you speechless with its simplicity and deliciousness at the same time. It is usually prepared with brown bread, fresh tomatoes, and olive oil. You can also find Pa Amb Oli upgraded with jamon or any kind of cheese and olives. Locals mostly eat it for late breakfast. If you want to experience a real Mallorcan vibe, try it out!

Goat Cheese Salad

Cheese lovers, prepare yourself! Even though Mallorca offers a great deal of delicious dishes, you can never go wrong with a goat cheese salad. It is a dish that would fit perfectly in your busy day of exploring Mallorca. It is usually served with honey, some fresh fruit, and nuts for crunchiness.

Snails

If you haven’t tried snails yet, Mallorca is the right place to do it. Many restaurants on the island serve snails, each with its own unique sauce, so you’re sure to find a version you love.

Gazpacho

This perfect summer soup will be your go-to lunch while exploring Mallorca. It is cold and it is creamy and just simply perfect for hot summer days on the island. Our favorite was watermelon gazpacho with feta, yum!

Seafood Dishes

If you love seafood, you will not be disappointed in Mallorca. Restaurants here offer a great selection of seafood, from seafood paella to fresh fish and mussels. And do not forget about Gambas al Ajillo.

Ensaimada

This most traditional Mallorcan dessert is a round-shaped pastry, simply made of flour, milk, yeast, sugar, eggs, salt, and lard. It is definitely worth trying but it has not been our favorite. You can find ensaimada in local bakeries, coffee and pastry shops.
